For children who are growing up in a high-crime area or who have one or more parental figures in the correctional system, having a mentor could literally change their life. 70-80% of children who have a parent in the system will end up in the system at some point in their lives. However, for those children lucky enough to find a mentor like YOU, their chances of success are improved dramatically. They are nearly half as likely to initiate first time drug or alcohol use, a third less likely to hit another child in school, and more likely to graduate high school (even going on to college). While an hour a week may not seem like a big deal to any of us, that same hour can make a world of difference to a child in need.
